In 2020, Vietnam has proposed an initiative to the ASEAN Coordinating Committee on E-commerce (ACCEC) about an online shopping day for the entire ASEAN region to encourage and promote cross-border e-commerce in the region. With the agreement from ACCEC and the ASEAN Secretariat, the first “ASEAN Online Sale Day” was officially launched on August 8, 2020.

In the first year, we have 2 main purposes are build a website for AOSD program and promote communication for program, increase program awareness to consumers and businesses in ASEAN area. So the concept of AOSD 2020 has 2 activities: ASEAN Pavilion and ASEAN Cross-border. In ASEAN Pavilion, every e-commerce platform and businesses of 10 countries will implementing special sale program on August 8, 2020 in that country. And about ASEAN Cross-border, every e-commerce platform and bussineses already have cross-border transactions between 10 countries will promote and sell their famous products, services on August 8. Both activities will take place at the same time on the website of AOSD program. 

After August 8, 2020, the AOSD program in 2020 has already recorded some results are 218 businesses from 10 ASEAN member countries; 8592 views for the website. Beside 10 ASEAN countries, the web of program also receives views from other countries such as US, Australia and China. Vietnam has attracted 19 enterprises joined AOSD including 1 platform provided cross-border shopping. Most searched products during the event are FMCG; fashion; national specialities such as in Vietnam are tea, silk, coffee…

The first year of AOSD has achieved its goal. There are still some limitation but the experiences in organizing and implementing AOSD in first year will be the premise for the success of the coming years.
