 08-08-2026

Secretary-General of ASEAN Dr. Kao Kim Hourn has delivered pre-recorded remarks for the ASEAN Online Sale Day (AOSD) 2026, highlighting the importance of building a safe, secure and trusted digital commerce environment across the region.

In his remarks, Dr. Kao emphasized that ensuring the safety, security and transparency of digital commerce is essential to building a trusted digital ecosystem that businesses and consumers across Southeast Asia can rely on. Such an environment is critical to strengthening confidence in online transactions and supporting the continued growth of the region’s digital economy.

The ASEAN Secretary-General also underscored the role of initiatives such as AOSD in promoting cross-border e-commerce and creating greater opportunities for businesses, particularly by helping local enterprises expand their reach and connect with consumers in other ASEAN Member States. By facilitating greater digital connectivity and commercial engagement, AOSD contributes to deeper economic integration and stronger intra-ASEAN trade.

Dr. Kao further stressed that enhancing consumer confidence in online transactions remains a key priority as ASEAN advances its broader digital economy agenda. Strengthening trust, transparency and security in the digital marketplace will be essential to ensuring that businesses and consumers can fully benefit from the opportunities created by the region’s rapidly growing digital economy.

The Secretary-General’s remarks reaffirm ASEAN’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, trusted and connected digital marketplace, while supporting greater participation of businesses and consumers in cross-border e-commerce across the region.
